THE TUTOR

TALKING ABOUT ME, AS AN ONLINE BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE TUTOR.

Hello! I am potentially your online Brazilian Portuguese Tutor and will be glad teaching you the Brazilian language and culture.

My name is Marcello and I was born in Brazil in the 80's, "Brasil" bether saying in Brazilian Portuguese. I currently live in Brazil after travelling the world for many years. I was grown speaking different languages within my family and the countries we've been to. Spent some of my life in Europe and then, back to Brasil, I was always studying in muticultural schools. So working with languages sounded natural!

I have been a languages tutor and translator in the last 15 years. I am certified with a technical diploma as an interpreter and translator in Italian and Portuguese. I have always been fascinated by the idea of being a poliglot and receiving this multicultural inheritance from my european family. English has always been part of my studies. I lived for short periods in England and in the US. I graduated in Social Sciences at one of the best Brazilian Universities (USP), where I also had the chance to learn and practice languages in the accademic environment, also teaching other students.

Today I keep on teaching languages because it's been giving me freedom, since I am an online tutor I have been living as a digital nomad. It also provides me an income and, finally, it gives me the satisfaction of talking to people from all around the world. Join me in this intercultural exchange!

What to say about Brazil?

It is my homeland. I was born here and I can hardly live without it. I'm used to the warm weather, to the tropical natural landscapes, to the delicious regional foods and also to the well known easy-going  people.

Get some classes with me and I'll teach you a lot about Brazilian culture, language, music and food. I can also help you planning your trip to come over.

Learning a new language is always an adventure. You are discovering new words and, in each one of them, fantastic realities all the time. With Portuguese it is the same. Especially with Brazilian Portuguese, since it has been influenced by so many different cultures along it's history. Today we can discover all this in a much easier way using the online tools available.

But the continuity of the study is always menaced by the distractions and the lack of perseverance that we might all suffer from. That's when the tutor comes into scene.

The teacher will help you to learn and will keep you up to your aim. During classes and in between them. It's all about attention driving, conversation practice, patience and motivation.

So let's understand a bit better what is this all about.

WHY LEARNING ON-LINE?
  1. BECAUSE YOU SAVE TIME. Avoiding traffic or unnecessary displacement
  2. BECAUSE YOU SAVE SPACE. There's no need of a special room
  3. BECAUSE  IT IS MORE EFFECTIVE. You focus better in the speech, especially if you are wearing earphones.

WHAT IS THE METHOD?

As a teacher I usually apply my Psychology knowledge to language teaching. Cognitive-behavioural analysis compose my main didactic approach.
That means that the Portuguese course is not only a language learning but also a self improvement and self esteem increase motivated by the tutor. That is why it is so important to have a teacher with a good educational background. A private tutor is a great motivator that keeps the student on its way.

LEARN BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE WITH LITERATURE

One of the best ways to learn a language is through the reading of well written texts. That's a more natural way to practice the correct expressions (or more elegant) during classes. This is also coherent to the principle of motivation, since the stories usually keep the course interesting. Another advantage is the fact that the tutor have many occasions to show some social and cultural aspects of Brazilian culture. There are several Brazilian writers we can read and, of course, suggestions are always welcome.

Some of my favorite writers include:
-Guimarães Rosa
-João Cabral de Melo Neto
-Machado de Assis
-Gilberto Freyre
-Ariano Suassuna
-Jorge Amado
